Matthew Hilton

Simply gorgeous styling, product photography & website from furniture-maker Matthew Hilton. I want the entire collection, but that goes without saying.
Nike AirMax Illustrations

This project by Matt Stevens totally stopped me in my tracks (pun intended, of course). Matt has cleverly mimicked each of his favorite designer’s styles on an illustration of the classic Nike Air Max 1.
From top to bottom: Nicholas Felton, Jason Munn, Armin Vit, Jessica Hische, Chip Kidd, Aesthetic Apparatus, Frank Chimero, Always With Honor, and Invisible Creature.
En pointe, dude. Also, I’m stopping with the foot metaphors now. I just walked right into that one, I couldn’t help it! Oh wait, HEYO.
Ok. I’m really done now. I promise.

Guest Post: Andrew Payne
Good morning! Today’s post is brought to you today by Andrew Payne of The First Few, fellow blogger and friend of the internet. Thank you for taking the time to put this post together, Andrew!

Being a guy who has very rarely been forced to wear a tie to work, I do sympathize with all the “business men” who head down to Wall Street every day dressed to the nines in suit and tie. I do find myself a little envious of the sharp look they exude though. Not to say that I would want to change places. But, more power to them…

No argument that this gentleman wears his suit well- and a nice suit at that, but the flash of color from that pink tie really does the trick. Well done sir.

These fellas could be investment bankers or office supply salesmen, who knows? The ties, the ties, they give them instant credibility.

This vendor certainly knows where his cart is set up. Just a few mere feet from the Wall Street sign itself, this guy knows how a lunchtime mishap can ruin the day for any number of the thousands of tie-wearing men who walk past daily. And he’s absolutely right- at $5.00 a piece, a person can walk away with a new tie for practically the same cost as dry cleaning. Admittedly, his patterns and colors aren’t bad either!

When not in a rush during lunch hour, a lot of these Wall-Streeters make the pilgrimage to the ever-dependable and timeless J Press (as my father has been doing for 40 years). Some of their assortment:

Madras Plaids:
And for the slightly more trend-conscious necktie connoisseur (but still preppy traditional)- from Blackbird:

I haven’t the slightest idea how these sculptures are constructed, but they are just breathtaking. Such a surprising way to use paper! By Mia Liu. Via Tokyo Blues.
Howdy Do It #21 – Mini Mix
Howdy Do It came from “how do you do It,” the question Ellie & Margot found themselves asking about their freelance lifestyles, and so Howdy Do It was born, a column about the things we do to keep ourselves organized, inspired and on track. Right now, Howdy is only making sporadic appearances here on Pitch, but you can read all of Ellie’s previous posts here and my previous posts here on Mint.
Of course, the floor is still open for discussion on our formspring, so feel free to ask us any related questions if you are inclined.

Happy Friday friends! Here’s a special edition of Howdy for you in honor of my birthday today. It’s a mini mix! Why so small you ask? The idea is that the 28-minute mix gives you a short period of total concentration on one task. It’s loosely based off the Pomodoro Technique, which is all about breaking up your time with short bursts of intense focus. So far I’ve been finding it especially helpful at the end of the day when I’m running on fumes, or when I find myself procrastinating on a task, like email, that can suck a whole day away if I’m not careful. Plus I like that this system doesn’t expect you to be on task all day long so I am allowed to balance in my own time here and there.
Typically for Howdy mixes (previously posted here) I favor a more up-tempo feel, something that’s pretty energetic. I’ve been on a hip-hop/soul/electronic kick these days so this particular mix reflects that.
1. 1969 / Boards Of Canada
2. Walk In The Sky (Feat. Bajka) / Bonobo
3. Weapon Of Choice / Fatboy Slim
4. Kaili / Caribou
5. Cellphone’s Dead / Beck
6 . Don’t Gotta Work It Out / Fitz & The Tantrums
Download Directions:
It’s a .zip file (virus free, I promise) which contains a folder of the songs and an import playlist file. First drag the songs to your music library and then import the playlist (File>Library>Import Playlist). It will make you a nice little list in your iTunes and you should be good to go.
That’s it from me today, I’m going to go celebrate! Chad got me a super cute purse from this chick and it’s got convertible straps for biking so we’re going to test it out.
