The Miss Rockaway Armada

Conceived by Swoon, the Miss Rockaway Armada is a band of merry art-making friends that built a fleet of boats/rafts/water crafts that sailed the length of the Mississippi in 2006 and 2007. I think it’s safe to say this is my favorite piece of art right now, for obvious reasons.
“Our flotilla is built green with pre-cycled materials, rainwater collection, solar ovens, and steam calliopes. If we make it right everything will run on sunshine and french fry grease. We want a floating garden, a bicycle-powered sound system, and wind-powered lights. We want to steal hippie technology from the hippies.”
Wow. Even though I’m bummed I never got to see this, I still think it’s just so awesome that they pulled off such big, insane project.
